Ways to Get Involved
From financial gifts to volunteer time, there are many ways to get involved.
Volunteer and Foster
Volunteering at NACC is one of the most rewarding ways to directly help animals during their transitions. Positions range from animal caretakers to office help. NACC relies on its dedicated volunteers to make animal success stories possible.
Attendance at a volunteer orientation is required for most positions. To get started, contact the Norfolk Animal Care Center Volunteer Coordinator at (757) 441-5505, ext. 307 or check out the NACC website for volunteer FAQ's and application form.
Fostering pets is another way to volunteer. Animals that are too young for adoption, recovering from an injury or in need of a different environment, rely on foster families to give them the time and support they need to get ready for adoption. Foster homes provide one-on-one time and attention to hundreds of dogs and cats each year. Fostering can last a few days to a few months.
The program is flexible -- NACC matches the animals to the volunteer's lifestyle and schedule. For people who don't have time for a full-time pet companion, fostering is win-win. The foster provides a short-term opportunity for a lifetime of success. Momma cats with litters, orphaned kittens and puppies have the greatest need. NACC always is seeking additional foster homes, especially during the spring and summer months which are the busiest times of year for the shelter. NACC supplies foster families with food and bedding. If you are interested in fostering, learn more here or call Norfolk Animal Care Center at (757) 441-5505.
